im pretty sure its not the tensioner itself because people who had this going out had distinct diesel engine noise and when using a stethoscope heard the sound loud above the tensioner in the rear of the engine.

I just found this post
https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...ghlight=rattle

sounds closer to what I am experiencing. going to have to check on this.

I would also agree its a cam tensioner, but its hard to tell on a video on the internet.
Does the cam chain tensioner start to wobble when it gets worn out?

Yeah, but you would have to run the engine with the valve cover off to see that, plus you would have to see what it looks like when its working right to know the difference.

Default Found the rattle heard in the car!!!!!

OK, I spent hours in the engine compartment with my stethoscope revving the engine and listening to everything knowing I had to hear what I was hearing in my car. Finally, BOOM I found it. The brake booster!! never would have thought of it, but im positive the sound is coming from it. I put the stethoscope on the brake booster housing, revved the engine and got the distinct metallic rattle on engine deceleration. I even felt the stethoscope shake slightly when I heard it. checked everything around it and didn't hear anything.

anyone else have this ever??

Do you have a code scanner? It might just help you find your problem.
