Default engine deceleration rattle video

I have had this rattle forever and i just put a hi flow cat on and tightened the wastegate flap hoping that would fix it. well, it didnt. the video is in the car accelerating from a stop a couple times, downshifting and braking (louder rattling), and using a stethoscope to listen to the engine. any help here on what could be causing it would be appreciated!!

I dont think it is the cam chain tensioner because when I put the stethoscope in that area the sound gets quieter

Hey, I am having a hard time hearing your sound, it doesnt sound as high picked as the video below but check it out. I have a rattle identical to the video below, techs at the vw dealership I worked at thought it was a heat shield or something but I found this video on youtube and I asked the guy what it was for him and he said it was the waste gate. Once you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Only on decel....

I really thought is was going to be the wastegate, but I tightened it and the rattle was still there. then I bought the stethoscope and put it on the turbo and didnt hear the noise there. it seems to be loudest on the intake mani??

Putting a stethoscope on an intake manifold is like an a microphone for the engine internals. If thats where you are hearing a rattle it could be the water pump, cam tensioner, lifters ect.

It really does sound like a heat shield or exhaust interference noise when hearing it from inside the car..

Sorry. I don,t mean to thread jack, but how are you manually pressing the throttle? I've been trying to figure that out sinc I've had the car. I thought it was only electronically controlled.

Deceleration rattles are commonly either the wastegate arm linkage or the cam chain tensioner. Sounds to me like a very worn out cam chain tensioner.

You can't on your car, pre 00 cars have a throttle cable enabling him to just hit it by hand.

I would also agree its a cam tensioner, but its hard to tell on a video on the internet.
