Default Electrical Short HELP!

I just replaced my License plate lights because i got a fix it ticket. i replaced the bulbs on the original light assembly and that didn't work, i figured because it was pretty corroded inside. so i went online and bought the left and right light assemblies. the install was pretty easy. I go to check and see if they work and only the driver side is working and then it goes out. checked my fuses and one was blown so i went to advanced auto for a new one and it kept blowing them, went up to a higher fuse and it started getting hot and i didn't think it was a good idea to keep it in. my friend who is a lot better with cars than me said it must be a bad ground.

has anyone had this problem or can tell me a starting point to look for this ground issue or maybe a split wire? I didn't see any split wires to when i was putting in the new assemblies.

all advice would be greatly appreciated.

right and left side REAR light assemblies? OR are you talking about your actual license plate lights in the middle of your trunk above the plate?

Seth, the wires run from those license plate lights inside the trunk to the driver's side rear and then go inside the trunk and towards the front, and I THINK, they then go underneath the rear seat. You might want to check to see if those wires are kinked or broken, touching the metal, making it short out...just follow the wires....sounds like a short, and if one of the wires is kinked, broken or exposed, it would cause your short....
