EDIT: DESPERATE! broken radio
well, after unsuccessfully hacking away at my concert II stereo to try and get it out i finally bought proper removal keys. i tried the removal keys and they didn't work.
i think putting my nail file into the key holes broke the clips that are supposed to release the stereo. at the moment, only the left removal key attaches to something, but it doesn't release the stereo on that side, and the right removal key freely moves in and out without attaching to anything.
are there any options left for me in removing my head unit?

RE: broken radio clips
Dont know how it is on pre-facelift B5s but when I was removing my stock HU I thought I had the same problem and really didn't. You might kind of have to wiggle the keys around and push them in a little harder.
Good luck

RE: broken radio clips
bump. pleaseeee someone! anyone! i have resorted to violently banging on my stereo, but only with my fist this time. did i mention that my stereo doesn't turn on? i have been driving around in silence! it gets old quickly!
if need be, i will break this HU, but how do i do it without ruining other things around it?
do i need to take it to a shop? where has all the support on these forums gone?

jk, seriously, If you can't get it out the next logical option would be the dealership, and while your there you can get your radio code and not ride in silence...
