ECU swap? compatible?

ECU swap? compatible?
hey guys,
i have a 98 passat 1.8t with the apr 1 bar ecu, i also have a 99.5 a4 1.8tqsm, with the stock ecu.
both ecu's have the same part number.....and apr lists the software program part number as the same for both cars....
will i run into any stupid problems by switching ecu's? i only ask because i am getting rid of the passat and dont want to give away a chip that i paid for, then turn around and buy another one for another car when i could have just swapped them....
so can i do it?
and if so .....do i disconnect the battery first.......(its been so long since i swapped an ecu....)
TIA for any help!

RE: ECU swap? compatible?
I do not think they will be compatible...unless they are both FWD/with the same trans....you would have to change the drive type/trans with a vag-com
if they have the same part # there is a good chance that they could be interchangeable
and it is a good rule of thumb to disconnect the batt, before swappin ecu's
if they are both fwd 5spds then the ecu should be interchangeable (without having to change anything w a vag)
