ECL....Coolant Temp Sensor

Arrow CEL....Coolant Temp Sensor

Hey guys

my CEL came on yesterday for the first time since ive had it (6 months) and I wasnt freaked or anything because the car drove fine. I took it to Autozone last night and they scanned it with the OBDII : P1296 was the code : Fuel Metering Blah Blah. I looked around on vwvortex and many people on there had this code too but I couldnt find out what I need to fix this.

I am 90% sure I need a new coolant temp sensor. I got a quote today for $28. Is this good, or can I pick a cheaper one up at autozone, or anywhere else? Do our cars need OEM Audi/VW sensors only, or will any brand work?

Also, where is my coolant temp sensor, haha noob i know but i aint gunna pay for labor to do it.

Again, the OBDII code was P1296, so if any of you have had this before then please just tell me if I am fixing the right thing!!

I currently need to replace my coolant temp sensor as well...I know my 99 2.8 takes the green circular 4 pronged sensor...There are blue and green sensors, from what I hear, the blue sensors are commonly found on the turbo's. Call a dealer and find out which sensor your car takes...Also, I hear it is bit of an ugly replacement on the 2.8s because of the location of the sensor...I would save myself $120 doing it myself, but need some detailed instructions.

You can find the part one www.ecstuning.com for $20....mechanic quoted it at $45.
