Default E3 Diamon Fire Spark Plugs

Has anyone tried the E3 diamond fire spark plugs? I think I'm due for a new set and am considering them. Looking at the FAQ, it appears that the spark plugs that are shown there are a bit out dated. So any suggestions? I think I have Autolite AP3923 Platinums in the car currently. But with a P0420 CEL, I think I will try replacing them to see if the CEL will go away (it's due for replacement anyway).

Any suggestions on spark plugs?

Unless you're BT and are really into performance, will a 3-pronged spark plug really make that big of a difference? The spark should theoretically run the shortest distance. About a year back there was a post about the E3's IIRC and the consensus then was to not waste your money on them and that a single-prong set of good NGK's will do just as well.

...though I pulled factory plugs (4-prong) out of mine at 180K and they were still firing for me.

Of course, I could be wrong. Are you sure the Autolites are still gapped properly for your APR chip?

I'm going to check on the gaps this weekend. The E3's are actually CHEAPER at $4.56 vs. NGK Laser Platinum Spark Plug (PFR6Q) $13.49 or Autolite Xp (Xtreme Performance) Iridium Enhanced Fine Wire Spark Plug $6.99.

The ones that I have installed right now are Autolite Single Platinum Spark Plug $2.75

Interesting. I was thinking of the NGK G Power plugs at $3.19 (AdvanceAuto). But $4.56 isn't that much of a difference and regardless, you only have 4 to replace so it's not like cost matters.

Either way, the gap is what would count with your current set up.

ill let you guys in on a little secret. the best plugs to run are regular copper core $1.50 ngk's. the high prices platinum gold plated bullshit is good for lengevity, yes, but it won't deliver any better spark than a copper core plug. the longevity is what they are going for. plus, the multi electrode plugs wont ever need gapping and the gapping wont every change. with that said,

buy copper core plugs if you don't mind buying/chainging plugs at $6 a set every 10 to 20k or about 3-6 oil changes.

if you dont want to do that and AREN"T heavily modified, pay the premium price of $50for those multielectrode plugs and dont change them for a long time. a common misconception is that the multielectrode gold plated, dimaond encrusted plugs will add horsepower.

^^^^^

this is prefect

I personally would never buy the E3 plugs, stick with NGK. For some insight, i did see E3 actually come on the power block, idk if anyone watches that on the weekends, but it seems to bump fuel economy and maybe a few extra hp on their dyno, but price wise just get coppers. Turbo cars actualy like copper plugs better for some reason.

Yeah I run the cheapo NGK plugs too. Never really understood the point of multi-electrode plugs for the reasons Skythe stated. Won't the spark just follow the path of least resistance through ONE of the prongs anyway?

I tried E3's a couple years ago and they worked great for about 5k miles, smoothed out my idle and had a little better throttle response compared to the sh*tty autolites the previous owner put in.

With that said though, they were trashed after 7k miles, I'll never buy them again.
