Down pipe
I'm planning on getting the apr stage 2 tune in the near future. I'm trying to find a down pipe that is not from apr. that is way to expensive for the " gains " I will get. Believe me when I tell you ive searched ! Is there something I am misunderstanding??? Thanks in advance guys

Check 034motorsport.com but remember that the downpipe is part of a full exhaust overhaul. It's not so much about the power you gain from each piece as it is how the whole pile of parts works together to increase the efficiency of the modded engine. Downpipes aren't just for power gains too - opening up the exhaust helps the turbo spool more quickly too. Don't get blinded into just thinking power production, period - think power across the rev range.

first you need to post your cars year + model when looking for advice, the apr product is 304 stainless and QUALITY, it will outlast your car, the 42DD pipe is prolly aluminized mild steel making it cheap to produce + sell, IMHO its overpriced, the rundown is fitment aside, 304 stainless forever, install once and forget, theres even NO surface rust, 11yrs first hand experience in pa, 199XXX miles, cheaper 409 stainless like magnaflow uses surface rusts but said not to rust thru, aluminized mild steel rusts even in the garage, depending where you live + how long you keep the car you may need another, 5 yrs in pa salted roads = another, thats your choice, expensive APR cheaper for the long run etc

Imthedevil, understood. I know you are familier with custom exhausts since you've recommended them to other members, in other threads that I have seen. Im trying to take the custom route as well. But I want to piece together certain parts and have the rest of the piping fabricated. Is a DP one of the parts I should get fabricated or just bought. I was under the impression that it was best to buy that particular piece.
Rodhotter, thanks. It's a 2001 a4 quattro. Yes I understand it's quality, and you do have a point with it lasting longer. I was just looking for a different route.

It probably is easier/better to buy the downpipe. Fabricating one is going to be costly, and chances are it'll be lower quality than one with the R&D that APR put into it. Fitment is guaranteed and the quality is known. And to custom build one out of similar quality steel might cost as much or more than just buying it.
For simpler parts like the catback, custom building it is better since the price of a purchased catback is bullshit. But for a downpipe, I'd pay the money for one from a tuner.

Just pick ne up from eBay. They have always been good fitment and quality isn't bad. I got one for my TT and its still good. Plus they are under $100 shipped. No reason to overpay for a pipe and flanges.
