Doing timing belt, noob mistake!!! 1.8T
#12
Hey guys, I appreciate all the input.
I got the crank pulley and found a small notch in it and thats the mark.
Took off valve cover and sparkplugs. Put screwdriver inside cylinder and turned the crank until piston 1 was at the bottom.
I then rotated the CAM untill the exhaust valves on cyl #2 were open, and intake valves very slightly open on cyl #3.
This lined up my cam perfect to the notch, then i turned the crank with its pulley and lower timing belt cover on and ligned up those notches.
Since the crank turns twice for every single rotation of the cam I had to make sure the right valves were open.
I put the new belt on (which is tough) and hand cranked the engine.
No interference! and the marks line up perfect after 360 degrees!!
I put everything back together, hooked up the battery and cranked it. It sounds excellent while cranking. Its getting spark and fuel (i checked) but it wont start.
Is it because the exhaust valves are opening when its suppose to be the intake valves opening?
Or something eles, no OBD codes are popping up

Did you install the lower cover and the crank pulley to verify tdc? That's the best way. The dme gets it's signals from the cam sensor and crank sensors - so no it can't be backwards. Most likely off a tooth or three. Screwdriver can get you close, best to verify with pulley on.
Then do a compression test. You need fuel, air, spark and compression for an engine to run. You also should ground the wire at the coil/ vc
