Default Doing clutch job, want to add oil pump?

So in a few weekends im going to be following this diy for my car's new clutch-
AudiWorld Tech Articles

I also need to replace my oil pump (I made the mistake of using seafoam in my oil :/) i will be following this diy (This is for a b6, are there any major differences i should know about?)-
DIY Oil Pan / Sump Replacement 1.8T Quattro - Audi Forum - Audi Forums for the A4, S4, TT, A3, A6 and more!

So when should i stop following that diy to do my pump? I was thinking after step 33, so the trans and flywheel are out of the way and then follow the oil pump diy then finish the clutch job...but i may be wrong (car in sig)

yes. the newer engines, 2001+ known as 06a blocks, have an oil pump driven with a chain and sprocket off the front of the crank. older 1.8t's, 2000 and less are known as 058 blocks and use a shaft to drive the oil pump. you would be like wtf? when you got in there

Is dropping the oil pan the same procedure? I haven't found a diy for b5s oil pump. Are there just a couple screws holding the oil pump in or is removing the oil pan only half the battle?

I really hope I get to be as knowledgable as you and others on this forum eventually, but until then I really really thank everybody for helping me out

I know on 06a block the oil pump is held in with 3 bolts. I don't know about 058 engines but I can't imagine its much different.

Ok good, Is after the tranny and flywheel out a good time to do it? (Btw we are putting the car on a full car lift and we have a tall transmission jack for the lift)

how are you supporting the engine while removing the transmission? you will need to find a place to support the engine other than a jack under there so you can remove the oil pan..

hehe ill come down and help if we can do my car aswell ;-). i need to replace clutch as well and synchro in transmission but i do not have a lift

It is a good time to do the oil pump, you will need to support the engine from the top since the sub frame will have to be moved.

Tofast2belast - good luck with changing the syncro if it is the 01A transmission.

How can I support the engine from the top when I'm using a full car lift?

i think the snub mount could propbably handle keeping it up. if not they make engine bars to hold them up.

I think what we are going to try is having two 2x4s parrell to each other one in the front of the engine bay and one near the back, held above by blocks on both sides and chains attached to them if that makes any sense
