DIY clutch replacement yay or nay?

Default DIY clutch replacement yay or nay?

So I learned my lesson.

Never let your friend use your car for the day, it comes back with a fried clutch.

So if i had a Haynes service manual and every tool i could possibly need, with a halfway inclined mechanical knowledge....

Should i change the clutch myself on a 2000 audi a4 1.8t ATW QUATTRO 5 speed manual

And if so... any tips or guesstimates on time.

I have aquired a mini cooper now as a second car sooo it doesnt matter if the car is down for a week or so.

I had someone else do mine and was way happier going that route to be honest. It was worth every penny to let someone else sweat it out

Im debating the same thing for my manual swap. I mean ofter rebuilding my engine, and being a mechanic, I know I can, I just don't want to.

Id rather split 500 between some friends and have them do it while im at work one week.

do you have to remove the exhaust system to do it?

At least part of it, yes. And that would be one of the easier parts.

When I get mine replaced I'm going to have my mechanic do it. I'll save myself the 30+ hours of blood, sweat, and tears. I've been quoted about $1,300 including parts and labor to have it done.

yeah i cant afford that, and if i take off the exhaust i might wait till i order my catback. does anyone know if its more difficult because its on an AWD car? because i honestly need to do this myself lol.

I'm in the same boat, I need a new clutch at some point, and I can NOT possibly afford to take it to a shop. There's just no way.

It's def a nice blood and sweat job, especially if your doin it at home with limited tools and such. But def not impossible. Just lengthy and annoying. Sub frame has to come down unless you want to disconnect a bunch of crap and jack the motor up to access the bell bolts. And a really annoying part will be benching the trans since you won't have the car on a lift using a nice tranny jack. Definitely get a manual.
