dip stick!

Its pretty easy. There is a allen key bolt and a little bracket holding it from moving back and forth right where the intake manifold bolts up. Just be careful when you pull it out that none of the pieces fall in! That would be No Bueno...

Really?
A bad dip stick funnel can cause a CEL?
I have recently been searching for a vacuum leak since a have a code for a lean condition. . I suspect its more than likely a vacuum leak.
I'll have to get that boot asap. The top of my dipstick is slightly broken. The whole damn sleeve comes up when I check my oil. .

That's what I read - but I think it was on the ebay page that was selling the replacement funnels. However, I've not been able to find anything that tells me what errors it would cause.
In my case, the funnel sticks up through the manifold. I'm not sure how to reach it. I guess I'll have to put the car up and look at it from underneath.
It's a $16 part, and a pita.

Does anyone have a DIY for changing this on the 2001 1.8t? The dipstick is sticking up through the manifold and I have no clue how to remove the old one. Maybe I can get to it from the bottom but I don't have a good place to work. (Never been much of a diy'er on cars).
Thanks!
Thanks!

It still doesn't look like I can reach the bottom of it through the manifold.
So - what if some little pieces do break off and fall in? (this thing is disintegrating and I'm not going to touch it until I have the replacement part). Is there a way to get to the screen on the oil pump?
