Difficult to start - smells flooded?
First off, allow me to apologize if this has been covered previously; I did a relatively lengthy search and couldn't come up with anything that seemed to fit my particular issue.
I've had my A4 since Halloween of '08, and the only problem I've had with her so far started around June of '09, when it would occasionally have a hard time starting after extremely hot days and refueling - maybe once every two months. It will turn over but only catch if I keep my foot on the accelerator - resulting in relatively sluggish response up until around 4,000 RPM and an accompanying white smoke cloud that smells like unburnt fuel. Recently this problem has become much, MUCH more frequent - around one start out of every 5. In my previous experience (before this car I was more of a carbureted Ford truck guy) my first thought would be that the car is flooding itself on start. My thought is that perhaps the fuel injectors are leaking fuel into the cylinders when it's sitting and causing it to be flooded on the next start - thinking about cleaning the injectors on the next weekend I have to see if that fixes the problem. Anyone else have this happen? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Have a quattro-rific day everyone.

To me it sounds like your coolant temperature sensor is bad, and is telling your computer that the temp is low, which makes the ECU dump too much fuel into her.
That would be a cheap part to replace, and a good first place to start.
