Default the dealer tells me that...

the dealer tells me that... i've got to take my car in there for them to program my remote key, costing £60! (I'm not after programming instructions like every other post.. so read on!).

They say they need to have my car in there to hook up their computer to, and then download a "key/code" from the Audi Secure Website which they use to reset the car to and to reset the remote key to.

Is this just a load of rubbish? Or is that just to do with the immobiliser part of the remote key?

I've got a 1998 B5.

I've tried programming the remote key myself but out of luck with that.

Anyone know about this downloading "key/codes" from the Audi Secure Website?

Cheers.

Thanks for that info, that's interesting and I don't have that plastic tag so I guess its the dealer then!

Do you know if that SKU code applies just to the immobiliser transponder chip, or do I need it for the whole remote central locking part too?

Thanks.

From what I know, the newer model A4 2002 and up to be programmed by the dealership. I programmed my 2001 A4 myself. You need two keys, one of which being the remote key. You shouldnt have a problem with your car either.

1. Insert original keyinto ignition switch and rotate (do not start yourcar)
2. Close door and insert remote key into door slot
3. rotate remote key clockwise to lock door
4. press and hold the lock button on the remote for 5-8 seconds(lights on the car should flash)
5. rotate key so that it is vertical again.
6. press unlock button on remote.
(Anyone, please correct me if i have any steps mistaken)

This should work. If it doesn't, tell me. I'll ask my friend for exact instructions, he works at the audi dealership.

Thanks for that info.

I've not tried those instructions to program it. I'll give it a go later. There seems to be so many variations on remote programming instructions! I've tried 2 methods that slightly differ from that and they didn't work. I'll give these a bash and let you know.

Cheers.

Tried these instructions but they don't seem to work either. I'm thinking there's a problem with the antenna or something to do with the signal on the car.

If you have any other ideas (or can ask your friend) , I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

haha, the B5 doesn't have an immobilizer, man.

You should be able to just program it at home with two keys.
