Ok sounds good to me. How come the old axle bolts can't be used?

They're a stretch bolt, it is good practice to replace stretch bolts after each use. For a bolt that is as important as the axle bolt and requires as much torque as they do (something like 90 or 110ftlb + 180 degrees) I wouldn't recommend reusing the original one.

Technically, any green colored bolt on the motor should be replaced after each use, but I reuse most of those. I also know a lot of shops don't replace axle bolts and they're not falling out or breaking left and right.

Good information thanks. I'll pick up the bolts when I get the coolant I need.

buy the entire boot kit from the dealer. avoids shipping costs and it is pretty close in cost to the aftermarket. one thing I did was leave the small side clamp off so that the boot can move up and down the shaft. I've done 3 or 4 joints and/or boots. worked for me (all the grease should be centrifugally forced into the big end). This job is easy but an awesome mess of cv grease everywhere.

One of the reasons I opted to get replacement axles instead. CV grease sucks.

The entire kit from the dealer is close to the aftermarket kit? I find that very hard to believe. The dealer prices are absurd. How much was the kit you got from the dealer?

I can get 2 boots with the necessary parts for $15 each. And then the bolts extra.

Cost at dealer, I don't remember. check and see.

you will also need a cheap tool from AZ or Advance that allows you to pinch the special German metal clips on CV joints. probably $15.

You'd be surprised how cheap some stuff is at the dealer, I bought a coolant flange and temp sensor for $1 more than aftermarket, the aftermarket flange exploded on me after 1k. These are the pliers I bought:

I tried cheaper ones first but they bent before the clamp even began compressing. I've done 3 boots with these pliers and they still look and function like new, not bad for a $20 tool.

Wow I wouldn't have guessed that an OEM part would only be $1 more. I will certainly place that call and find out how much it would be. I like to go OEM as much as I can, as I'm sure most people do.
