cruise control inop
Just picked up a new to me 2001 Audi A4 1.8t quattro, The car is in great shape for the age and mileage and aside from the door lock pump needing replaced the cruise control does not seem to work. I have searched the threads and have been unable to find any tips to repair this issue here. can anyone guide me to some tips for fixing the cruise control? any commonly found issues, hoping maybe there is some useful information I can use from others experience.
Thanks

Just a thought.. on my kid's 97 A4 with 2.8 V6, I found that there was a part of the cruise control linkage that had come apart. There is a rod coming out of a control module thing, and the linkage had come apart where the end of that rod attached to a lever on the throttle body (a ball and socket type of connection). Might want to first verify the physical linkage is all connected before suspecting something electrical...

For me, reflowing the solder on 3 capacitors on the cruise control module circuit board did the trick. However, this was after I had cleaned the cruise control stalk switch contacts.
I have a number of links to guide you toward fixing your inoperable cruise control system, but they're on my personal laptop and I'm at work - will have to get them later (unless somebody is able to help in the meantime).

Here's the write-up. I did this on my A4 because my cruise control was completely dead and it fixed it. It's been working without any problems for about 4 months now. The only thing was right after I did it, the switch wouldn't always work but I think it's because the switch hadn't been used in so long that the contacts needed to be worked a few times.

One note though, you don't have to remove the glove box. Open the glove box and on each side you will see a little wheel that the glove box runs and stops on. The arm that holds that wheel can be pushed so the wheel moves out of the way and allows the glove box to drop to where it is vertical but still attached on the hinges. You then have enough room to get to the cruise control module. I found this out because I couldn't figure out how to remove the glove box. If you have any questions I can post some pictures with how to do it. It's pretty easy to figure out once you look at the glove box.

Did the re-solder and didn't think it fixed it, but as jeckel20003 said it needed to be worked in or something because after a few tries it started to work!! I swear nothing has worked out this way for me usually its not such a easy fix, thanks guys!
