Crack In My Oil Pan
#11
Well I may just do it like that then. J-B Weld is only like 6 bucks. You can't beat good quality on the cheap. If you say it will work, I will trust you. I feel a lot better doing it on the outside. I don't think I would trust it on the inside of the oil pan. It would scare me every time I drove. But I will do like you said and just put it a few coats on the outside.
I still need someone to tell me who was having those aluminum skid plates made for cheap. My plastic skid plate got shredded like a year ago.

Alu skid plates are a lot of added weight.. They're supposed to break instead of the oil pan, so you can just replace them as you go. A lot of cars don't even have these. I've looked at some types, and even though they are "lightweight" they have a lot of added weight still.. But you know, with a 2.8 you might not feel the difference so much anyway. But the 1.6 (I'm driving one) still has a retail of 50 000$ here.. Wish I had your engine, hehe.

I know most shops around where I live will, assuming you do all the work cleaning up the oil pan and whatnot, weld the crack up for you for like $2. I've had to do that on a few vehicles when I still worked at the quick lube in town.
