Psssshhhhhhh never mind on any manual, Bentley or whatever else have you, 'preciate the offer, but after seeing the heater core tech article here at AudiWorld I am abso-effin-lutely pawning this job off on someone who knows what they're doing. Screw trying to do this myself, I'm going to keep sourcing more and more information on if this really is the problem, check the other possible causes for the thick coolant smell I'm getting, and once its more or less absolutely confirmed that the problem is the heater core, then I'll take it to the dealership so they can have all the fun. Thanks but no thanks on this job, just looking at those pictures in that tech article scare me enough lol

** note ** the link above only takes you to the listing of the articles, the actual heater core article is the 13th from the top, in case anyone who reads is interested in seeing just how big of a clusterfk this job is

Turned out to be the cylinder head coolant flange, the center plastic ring which grabs the o-ring brakes apart. You'll never see coolant only slightly smell it due to the fact that it trickles down the block and steams away between the engine and the firewall in the utmost-sneaky manner.

Check it out.
^^^ I had the same when I bought my car. But it got so bad all I was smelling was coolant when I popped the hood. Then it was guilding up back on the tranny and thats how i found it

^Hmm, that has me leaning even more to it being the heater core then. For as strong as the smell is coming through the vents, I can't smell it at all when I pop the hood...

Yea, I'm not adding coolant nearly that frequently, its only about every three weeks or so, so yea I'm doubting it'll be that flange if its coming through the vents that strongly, but I'll still get under the car and poke around either today or tomorrow, depending on how late I end up having to stay at work tonight, and see what I can find out.
