Does anyone know of a DIY or have some advice regarding the replacement of a coolant flange / hoses / o-rings on an 2001 A4 1.8T AWM B5?

A shop had diagnosed that it needs to replaced, and a friend mechanic of mine and his brother took a look and it seems like right around the flange there's leaking, either the hose is splitting, or the flange needs to be replaced, or both.

I've seen some write ups for DIY, but in the case of A4 1.8T it seems extremely hard to access the flange, even with the tight working space between the engine and firewall.

Any advice / installation / replacement instructions? Do I need to do the hoses as well?

 

I currently have the same issue and was curious as to what you did. was it easy. what was the cost like. everything you mentioned above are things the shop told me I needed fixed with the flange and rings and hose
