Default considering selling my 96 A4 12VQ 5spd

I got this car with 98K and has maintained it myself over the years -timing belt, front and rear shocks, front control arms (all), brake rotors (all), and so on and so on.....

The car ran great until 211K but has now developed an engine miss due to oil on plugs on 2 cylinders. Could this be worn rings due to high mileage? My heater core also leaks so I bypassed the bastard (thank god for summer)

I still drive it but there is a loss of power although I am still able to take her up to about 85MPH on the expressway (takes some time to get there).

I'm thinking I should get rid of it. Any suggestions?

That motor is known for head gasket leaks, but usually the leaks are external...meaning the oil ends up on your garage floor. Yours might be leaking internally. Not good. It is unlikey that the head gaskets would crap out on both sides. Are the oily plugs only on one bank?

oil on the plug wires is a valve cover gasket failure

^ I think hes talking about oil being on the spark plug itself. How much oil does the car use between oil changes? If you have a headgasket leak you could do a compression test on it for ***** and giggles. But in my experience a bad headgasket will burn off coolant more so than oil. If I had to guess i would lean more towards the rings. Personally I would run a Cylinder Leak Down Test and see what you come up with.

Correct. Oil is on plugs on same bank. Actually, I did a head job when I did my TB - about 40k ago. Valve seals were changed then.

I also used my boroscope to inspect the cylinders in question. What is confusing is I do not see any irregular score lines on the cylinder walls that would indicate busted rings. In fact I was fascinated that the marks on the cylinder walls were still cross hatched - I have not inspected both cylinders thoroughly.

While there is some smoking, I am not burning any significant amount of oil in between oil changes; however it takes a very short time (about a week?) for the friggin oil to get very black

I guess I'll have have a leakdown done then. It's as shame as I was headed for the 300k
