Default Confused !!! .028/.032/.040/.045

I have done some search here and learned that the gap of our spark plugs shold be .028 to .032. I wanted to replace mine so bought some plugs and they measured .045. I pulled out the old plugs and they measured .040.
Now I am confused, the car has been running fine with the .040 gap, should I regap the plugs? will the car run better? what side effect is the wider gap? can it harm the engine?.....

TIA for your responds.

I've always run mine at .032. I guess if it runs fine a wider gap shouldn't be a problem.

What kind of plugs did you buy? Some Iridium plugs will have a wider.044 gap. I think the lower .032 is mainly for boosted cars.

.032 for stock should be fine

I'm running NGK BKR7E's gapped at .030 for my setup

new plugs are not gaped for your specific vehicle, and the gap on old plugs increases as the electrode burns down. .030 (+/- 0.002) is good for copper single electrode plugs.
