Default !@#!@# mil light

k so after the last time my malfuction indicator light came on i had it scanned. i should of done research before i took it to the trusty mechanics (bastards) they said the code was for advanced camshaft positioning. so i droped a grand and had them replace the timing belt (which is bullshit it shouldnt take 11 hours of labor). any how i was happy my a4 was back on the road then it came on again and i ran a obd-2 scan on it and its the same f#cking code. a freind of mine who is a mechanic did some research and apparently there is a nother timing belt in the rear of engine with tensioner pulleys that are plastic i think. he said it might be that. now some times when i start it it has a eradic idle and funny noise then i give it gas and it works fine. it only seems to trow the code when i get it up to high rpms in first and second gear which is why he thinks its the belt or the tensioners. if anyone has any insight to this it would help as i dont want to go and buy the cam sensor just to waste money if it is the other belt.

I've never heard of a belt on the back?!

Got all the parts ordered but decided to have my local euro shop do the fix since it's still kinda cold outside and my garage has the CQ in it. It goes in next Monday. Tensioner, tensioner gasket, valve cover gasket, oil change, plugs, and a coolant flush. Hopefully that's all it needs and I will have a $1,100 car!

the only chain I can think of in the back of the motor it the cam chain. Which the tensioner is what I'm replacing tomorrow.

Don , did you remove the valve cover yet? Just curious to weather or not you can see any visible damage to the chain tensioner blocks.

Cam tensioner replaced. Motor is driving hard but still making an odd noise. All since it's the first time I've drove it the tranny shifts normal under normal driving but odd when you get on it and let off. Also reverse on engages for like 3 seconds then goes away... yey -_-

Sounds like a bad/loose flexplate or bad dual mass flywheel.

Would that cause the reverse to not work by chance?
