Southbend is a popular choice on this board - many people opt for them when they're modding their engines, so a stock or nearly-stock engine is unlikely to ever cook one. Plus, as you go about modding your car, it's not likely that you'll have to address the clutch again, as Southbend seems to build clutches with plenty of clamping force that should work for you for quite awhile.

yeah i decided to get stage 2 so the clutch can handle my torque upgrade because otherwise wouldn't a stock clutch just go faster cause it can't handle the extra torque?

That's correct - if you make more torque than the pressure plate can clamp, you'll be spinning the disk against the flywheel while driving and will wear it out quickly.

Well on that same note if you get an extreme clutch like a 6 puck stage 5 or something like that it tends to tear apart the pressure plate surface. Puck clutches usually only have a life of 20-30 thousand miles. So getting a medium clutch like the southbend stg 2 would be good for long life because it uses a kevlar lining. Kevlar lasts literally forever but there is a very long break in period with kevlar, so you would have to baby it for close to 1,000 miles in some cases.

You can't resurface the stock flywheel, but you can scuff it up which is what i did. I wouldn't get a aluminum flywheel with a stg2 clutch either, you would experience way too much clutch chatter ( i know from experience) and reduced clutch life. Just re-use the stock flywheel, or buy another dual mass steel one.

Yeah the stg 2 can handle up to and around 300 at the crank, not much more than that. It feels stock when you drive it.
