My last car was a 99 Camaro Z28 manual. You could actually feel that the clutch pedal was attached to something and it started working pretty much right off the floor. IMO all manuals should be like that. Any of the aftermarket clutches for A4s fix it to be like that?

My custom dual diaphram clutch I used to run was so stiff that it felt like using a 100 lbs leg press.

Yes. The South Bend SS clutch kits I sell has that feel and engages very low to the floor. I too feel that a good clutch is one that has some resistance and feel at the pedal. Clutch Masters will also make me their clutch kits that way too, but the small down side to having it catch that low is that the clutch can tend to have some chatter as you are trying to engage the clutch from a stop. This is mainly all done by changing the pivot point, basically changing the leverage. More pre-load also means it takes more pedal movement to release the disk.

Then your best choice would be a South Bend OFE Stage 4 or a custom Clutch Masters.
The Clutch Masters FX850 twin plate I run has a very nice pedal feel and engagement that is just below mid way up. I am working with CM on a single FX850.
