Default Clutch Pedal Sticking Halfway - Fluid is still full

Was leaving work yesterday pulling out of my parking space. Shifted from 1st to 2nd smoothly but the car started lunging a bit. Thought I was f**king up my launch at first but after the second try I noticed my pedal was stuck halfway up. I lifted it up with my foot figuring my master cylinder just went out (happened on my 300z a while back), but when I pumped the pedal, the pressure was fine after 1-2 soft pumps.

Pulled back around into a parking spot and checked my brake fluid level. Still at max. Started the car back up, pumped the pedal for good measure, and drove home with no problems. Shifted fine, pedal tight, but when I was pulling up into the driveway to park I also noticed a whine similar to the power steering pump when it's low on fluid. Not a constant whine, but sporadic and at different levels as the car sat idling in the driveway. Turned off the car, checked my ps fluid (full), and my oil (full too) for good measure. I did have a low ps level a while back but topped it off with audi ps mineral oil and the whine from that stopped.

I don't know if this new whine is related to my clutch scare, but between the two I'm very sketched out now. I'm supposed to drive family to the train station 30 mins away from here early Monday morning before work, but I'm not wanting to risk an engine/clutch/trans failure on the interstate in order to keep my word to them. I've got a basic knowledge of clutch hydraulic systems from having to replace the whole shebang on my nissan years back, but anything internal past the slave cylinder (especially on this quattro system) is just a slightly-educated guess. If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be, or can give me some ideas to troubleshoot the problem further without dropping the tranny I'd be extremely grateful.

P.S. Since I've owned the car I have heard a click that's audible from inside the car every so often when braking at lower speeds (usually when rolling downhill). I don't know if this is relevant, but figured I'd mention it for the sake of giving you guys as much info as possible.

edit: it's a 97TQM A4

Bump and Update:

I found out where the whine was coming from. Broke out the stethescope and realized the whine was coming from my AC compressor. The sound also went away/came back as I cut my AC on and off. Pulled off the belt and sure enough it's got some rough spots as it turns. Gonna leave the belt off till I can track down a new compressor so it doesn't seize up while I'm driving in the meantime. One problem in the bag.

As far as the pedal sticking, I'm still not sure. I checked out my hoses, the slave, and the reservoir. No leaks on any of them. The hose running to to the slave looks/feels good and I bled the line for good measure. The pedal has still gotten hung up once more in the past week of driving. Same deal as before, lifted the pedal back up with my foot, pumped it, goes back to normal.

Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? Is there anything in the pedal linkage that might be getting hung up or am I looking at an internal problem?

My A4 is a 97 1.8TQM
