Default Climate control inactive

My climate control unit has been acting up recently, every once in a while the Down button for the temp wont work, and when the down button wont work on the temp the up button wont work on the fan control. But if one works, so does the other. Also My AC wont turn on or off when the other two buttons are not working but every other button works (recirculate,up temp down fan, defrost and auto). I was wondering if I need to replace the unit or if there is a fix I can do to correct this issue? It is becoming a annoyance and I would like to control my climate. (no pun intended) Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Default Climate Control

Surely QuattroNW and myself arent the only ones to experience this! The buttons on my 96 A6Q seem to stop working on humid or wet days. Is this a replacement issue or can the panel be removed and cleaned up to help button operation? Anyone, Anyone?

If it helps, I have a '96 HVAC controller that I'm not using. If you need it, $50 and it's yours.

this happens to me ever since pop spilled on it and caused some buttons to stick. My "auto" button would stick, so pressing any other buttons would have no effect. maybe the same with yours?

i fixed that by doing a double din swap which resulted me in getting a face lift climate control.

yeah sounds like a short of some sort. if you live in really humid areas (like i live in alabama with like 90% humidity every day) then you need to hit the circulation button like whenever you are driving. it will make a big difference in the long run

here the DIY for the fix i used, if its not loose soldering then like VGO said it probably needs a good cleaning with some armourall to clean up the crap that builds up over time.

Thanks SAudi, I'll look into it as soon as I can,---

ObnoxiousDrunk: I may be getting back to you after I try the clean-up

audi guru: Clutch is locked up on the a/c so recirc doesn't operate properly, I pulled the main fuse until I can replace the unit (it would kill the engine when the pump would engage...wow, some belt)

Thanks to all for the replies...to be continued
