Exclamation clanking engine noise and no power!!!

i own a 2001 a4. i was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden as i was coming up a turn, my car started to lose power, as i pushed the gas not much happened and my car started to shake. the yellow battery charge light then followed. i barely made it home, driving very slow and catiously. i popped the hood open and there was no smoke, but it smelled liked something had or was burning. this morning i turned on my car, no dashboard lights came on, but my engine now shakes violently and makes a loud clanking noise. havent tried driving yet. dont want to make things worse. please help!!!!

It sounds like the yellow light you are describing is your CEL, and you are misfiring. Battery light is red. Don't drive it. Get a ride to autozone or advance and borrow their obd scanner. Take it home and scan your ecu and post the codes. You probably have a bad coil pack.

i agree with checking the belts... did the cars temp gauge read hot did you notice?

misfiring could be the problem too, but the clanking noise wouldn't make sense.

i have no mods and the cars temp read normal although when i popped the hood open, it was much hotter than usual. checked belts and they all seem fine. if it is a problem with the coil pack, how much am i looking to spend to fix?

did you check the timing belt? get your codes scanned and put them up. we'll all just be throwing out random solutions otherwise lol
