ok....there is definitely oil seeping on the turbo between the cast iron(brown) part and the actual turbo(silver) where they seem to connect. im going to attempt to take off the turbo tomorrow...what should i look for? where is the oil line?

you mean theres oil coming out of where the exhaust manifold meets the turbo flange? or between the turbo and the CAT? that probably means the seals are toast, and also your O2 sensors and possibly CAT are also toast from the burning oil.

How about this picture? This is from a 2.0T but you get the picture right?what you think is the cause of it and what damages have it done? Can anyone help me with a link to a writeup to remove the turbo? Any suggestions appreciated and thanks!

i stared at that for a good minute wondering how you got that turbo on your car before i read this hah.
so its leaking from between the compressor housing and the main body part of the turbo? try taking off the intake pipe that feeds air into the center and sticking your finger in there to see exactly how much oil is in there and if there is any shaft play. theres a flat black valve called a pancake valve on the intake pipe that feeds crankcase vapor back into the intake to be burned that can often suck up oil residue which happens to be right before the turbo so some oil can get in there that way. without a good picture its hard to tell exactly whats goin on though.
to remove the turbo, you just unbolt everything. its not very complicated though the 3 bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold and the bolts that go turbo>downpipe can be a PITA. soak them in penetrating oil for a few hours before trying.
