Probably too late on this one, but I'd highly suggest Speedtuning if you're only interested in getting a Stage 1 or 2, definitely the best bang for you buck! How do I know? Well, I've driven multiple chipped B5 A4's with the big name companies, and for $150 ST is right on par. As far as Reflect, Vagworks, Gonzo, etc.....I don't know, but I highly doubt any of them will chip your vehicle for $150. Only downside is shipping your ECU to them, however you can always go to their website and reach out to them with any concerns.

I had Speedtuning's Stage 1 software for 5 years on my 01, and I NEVER had an issue. Heck, I even upgraded to their mild K04 tune on stock injectors for the same price, $150. That's TWO tunes for $300, not including the shipping of course, so more like $380 with back-and-forth shipping on two transactions. If you're looking for a company that offers BT software or the K04 injector program, ST isn't for you.

The "best" chips? My 01 has outperformed GIAC and APR flashed vehicles, with Speedtuning Software. Actually, I beat an 05 1.8T with the APR injector program by 1 1/2 car lenghts in approximately 1/2 mile, both manuals....both had great launches however I was able to jump off the line to 40 quicker, after that nobody gained/loss ground until the finish.

Of course, this is just one "race".....but considering I've driven other B5's that had GIAC and plain jane APR programs, I didn't think any of the tunes were "standout." Again, it all comes back to the price/performance, and I've yet to find a better bang for your buck than ST...$150 can't be beat for what you get with a stock B5 Stage 1/2 program....
