Central Locking Pump

Central Locking Pump
So I need a new central locking pump and had a few questions.
I have a 99.5 A4 Quattro 2.8
Does it have to be the exact central locking pump with the same part number?
Can it be a different version , if so which ones will work in my car?
Also is it straight plug and play...do I need to know how to reprogram the car?
Please help as I need this piece in order to start my car (I cannot disengage the alarm)

I'm just going from memory here, so don't hold me to this, but I believe there were several different versions of the central locking pump. That said, I don't know which one is right for your car, or why you wouldn't be able to retrofit another one. Have you considered re-building instead of replacing? These pumps fail because some rocket scientist Audi engineer decided to make the impeller wheel out of graphite, which eventually frags into a million pieces and pump no workie. The pics in this DIY are dogshit but I'm sure you could find the parts and do the repair yourself far cheaper than you'd be able to find a complete replacement pump...

I believe the whole unit is in bad shape. Not only do my locks not work...but the whole unit was soaked with water and now I cannot disengage the alarm. I think the chip is fired or one of the connections...but I think I can find another unit on ebay for $150 just wanted to see which one would be applicable.
Thanks

Don't spend 150 dollars on a new one.. Go to a junk yard and spend 10.

If you replace the computer module, you'll need a VAGcom to reprogram. If you reuse the module and replace the pump, there is no need to reprogram.
If the unit is soaked in water, you have a leak. Be sure to fix the leak before investing time and energy into replacing the CLP.
