Default CEL Codes.

P1408
P1504
P0401

1996 A4

This is what I found online...

0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirc.Flow Insufficient Detected
1408 - EGR Temp.Sensor Signal too High
1504 - Intake Air Sys.Bypass Leak Detected

Do I need to take this in to get fixed? Can I do it myself... I'm completely lost.

And would any of these codes be causing horrible gas mileage? I'm getting 16MPG right now of 65/35 hiway to city driving

The first two codes are most likely related. Chech your EGR with a vacuum pump for movement. Ok, then check EGR piping or clogged EGR port.

Third code is for either the Idle Air Control valve or a leak in the intake plumbing.

Would any of these be causing bad gas mileage? Are they expensive fixes? Can I fix it myself?

I did some searching, all I find that might help you is this http://www.engine-light-help.com/egr-valve.html

The codes are definitely related to your gas problem from what i'm reading. Good luck, hopefully someone had a similar problem and can help you out. Otherwise try some other forums, someones bound to give you some direction.
