Car seems to run at unusually high RPM's

I would say that makes sense, but third redlines at 60mph, and all my other gears seam short too. I checked the sticker in the trunk, which said I have the DWM transmission, which is stock, of course. Is there anywhere I can check the code on the actual transmission, since a swap probably wouldn't be shown on that sticker?

Bringing back an older thread with newer ideas. I can add on that fifth redlines at about 98 mph, which again, is not right. I've started to wonder though if maye the tachometer is reading wrong. Anyone heard of that issue or know of a way to check? Engine noise isn't very much compared to my brother's 01 1.8T at high revs, but the 1.8T is probably noisier anyway. I just need a way of checking whether this could be it.

You'll have to get under the car, but there is an ID plate on the side of the transmission. I think it's on the driver's side. It should have the type of transmission in fairly large letters, as well as it's serial number.

I couldn't see the tranny code under the car since I have no way of lifting it which makes it difficult to get very far under, let alone move my head once under there. That will have to wait for another day. Is there any plausibility to the misleading tach theory?
That's what seems normal to me, which is what leads me to believe that mine is far from normal.
