Default Can't open boot

Hi,

I've just bought a B5 A4 TDi 110 SE and realised when I got home that I can't open the boot. The central locking seems to work fine, as I can hear the solenoid working. However, pressing in the lock button doesn't release the boot at all. I've also tried unlocking the boot from the key.

Does anyone know what the cause of this could be? I can't see how I can access the boot through the cabin either.

Thanks,
Terry

Note to Americans...boot = trunk.

Sorry, wish I could help but I've no idea how to get into the trun, erm, I mean boot, when the button doesn't work.

Thanks, I didn't think about the translation issue

Is there any way to gain access from inside the cabin? My centre armrest doesn't have the ski hatch, there's material behind it.

If it comes to it, I'll cut the rear seats out but I don't really want to have to!

NO DON'T DO THAT. Ok, on the tops of the back seats on both sides should be a lever for folding the seats forward. Rotate it toward you and pull the seat back down. If it's locked then you can unlock it with the ignition key. As for the boot not opening unlocking it with the key would have been my first guess. For some reason, unlocking with the key is ALWAYS a pain in the dick so if you weren't successful when you tried that might be your issue. I believe the manual boot lock will keep the boot locked even though the power lock "unlocks" it.

Hmm, I've had a look and can't see anything on the tops of the rear seats other than the holes where the seatbelts come from. Do you by any chance have a picture of what you mean? Mine is a '96 pre-facelift model if it makes a difference.

I'm wondering if the US models differ from the European ones as I've been told that there's a metal sheet behind the rear bench that will stop me accessing the boot from the cabin. If that's the case then I think I'm pretty screwed!

Thanks

On my 99.5 facelift, there is a handle on top of both rear seats, right next to the head rest. When I pull the handle, the seat folds down.

You would see it if you had one. I can't think of why you wouldn't have fold down rear seats, but maybe the 96 year model didn't have those.

I have a 97, mine fold down so yours should too; unless of course you were right about the Euro version. Call a European dealership and ask them.

Then just sit down and cry if you're correct about no seat levers.
