Default Can I calibrate a new instrument cluster?

I bought a refurb gauge cluster from A&P, but all the needles are farther to the left than my original.

Can you calibrate these things? Rob at A&P said you could do it with a Vag-Com. Anyone have any experience with this?

Oh, and the new cluster is telling me to "Service Oil".

I dont think theres anything to adjust the needles like that, theres only an output test to check to see if they are centered. Im not sure if there might be a physical adjustment or something. You could make sure the correct engine and info are entered (search that i think its on vagcoms site). Ive never seen anyone with that problem before. The service oil display can be removed with VAG or by using an odometer button method (search that too). If you cant find what im talking about let me know and i can email it to you. It really just seems like that cluster is just off, what was wrong with your old just outa curiosity.

My car has the same problem with the speedometer reading below 0 at Idle and under 10 miles per hour when driving. I have to somehow get it fixed soon, hate driving and calculating by adding +10 to figure my speed.

I just read a thread recently on calibrating the fuel gauge, it has a small amount of adjustment that can be tweaked with a vag-com to adjust for variances in resistance from the sensor in the tank to the insturment cluster but I don't recall anything about RPM other than setting the cluster for 4, 6, or 8 cylinder (also done with a vag-com). I believe the information is available on the Ross Tech site.

Your issue sounds like something A&P should take care of for you; it doesn't seem right that you get a newly refurbished cluster that needs work, or they could atleast give you more desriptive how-to information with the vag-com.
