Carfax also has employees looking for people giving free carfax's. So if you do anything make sure it's kept on the low :P But it's a bit pricey I must agree. Audi dealers shares info with one another so you might be in luck for a free service record as stated above

Wow! this is the most positive response I've ever seen to some one asking for a carfax on a forum. I asked about getting one ran on a BMW forum a few weeks ago and all I got was 17 replies about how terrible I was for even mentioning it, and how I should be banned. I knew I liked my fellow Audi owners more than fellow BMW owners, I agree carfax is way too expensive for the service they provide. I have owned two A4 1.8T's both casablanca white and both had been in major accidents and carfax had absolutely no record of it. One of them was totaled out by the PO's insurance co. with an estimate for over $3,000 in damage, and a claim made. Then he bought it back and sold it to me damaged, and I ran a carfax when I went to sell it for fun, and they had no record of it being TOTALED! After that I would never pay Carfax directly again, I'd much rather help out a fellow forum member with and unlimited account, and give them a couple bucks to run one if I ever need to. Anyways I'm glad to see you guys are much more supportive, and I forgot about the fact that the dealer may have the service record for the last timing belt job on an A4 I just bought, so I will call them tomorrow.

Carfax is like 39.00, but I don't remember if that's for a single or lifetime reports.
Autocheck is 20 for a single report.
Autocheck usually has data that Carfax doesn't seem to get. That said however; it's like the credit tracking agencies. They only report on what they get, and every mechanic, tow operator, and insurance agent doesn't report to both, and in many cases, they don't report to anyone.
Always, always a good idea to have a mechanic you trust go over any used car you choose to buy.

Audi owners FTW. My mom put it in terms of school clicks: Honda owners are the preps; BMW owners are the jocks and cheerleaders; Merc owners are the professors; and Audi owners are the greasers. Audi owners are too cool to honk and wave when we pass each other (Honda owners) but not too cool to offer help and advice when people need it. We have a tendency to come off as dicks but ask for help and most of us are pretty cool.
