i think the problem is you're not getting enough power to jump start the bulbs when they are cold. i have the same problem sometimes but only on my passenger light. i'm running vvme 35w 6000k. you could run a capacitor between the battery and ballast and it should solve the problem. usually the combi switch just goes bad without previous symptoms

i don't understand how its not getting enough power, ive had 55w kit in my depo h7 headlights like a month ago before i sold them... im thinking at this point im going to put back in my philips 35w bulbs I found w/ my ddm 55w ballasts and see if they work, if they do I know I got defective bulbs from DDM twice.

Update - when I pulled the bulbs off the d2s connectors and flicked the switches both sparked like normal as if there was a bulb there it was trying to light.
Now the weird thing is, if I put my D2S bulb on there with the connector out of the housing and lock it in place and turn my headlights on.. they both come on, no problem whatsoever... I couldn't get them to act up at all.. but if I put the D2S bulbs in the housings and twist them on it doesn't work 80% of the time passenger side will act up.. or sometimes even the drivers side.. or sometimes both won't come on.
Any thoughts on this?
I'm 99% sure I'm installing the D2S bulb properly, you put it in there where its like - - on the sides of the bulb with the ---------- part of the bulb facing down so the pattern fits in and it locks, then you hold onto the bulb while putting the clip under the - - on the sides, then bringing it to the top and locking it under where its supposed to be locked... then put the d2s connector on, push down to make sure its all the way and twist to lock & put cover back on..
compared to this image, however this guy is retrofitting - http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/_DSC0195.jpg, on my headlights theres little fins around the back projector.. is it possible they are interfering should I bend them back? >_<

ME TOO!!! Any luck with the HID problem?
Sorry I can't be of any help, but did you ever have any luck? I've been having the EXACT same problem with the HID's I put on my 2007 Tacoma. I even have the relay harnesses for my three kits (I did the high beams, low beams, and fog lights). The High beams and fog lights work perfectly, but the low beams (regular running lights) do the exact same thing, and I have to do the switch flicker to get them both working (an additional problem with that is that eventually I burn out a fuse that handles an interior lights for the radio and shift ****).
Did you ever get any answers that worked to figure out the problem or solution?

If your original headlights were halogen and your now putting in HIDs your DRLs maybe the real issue. Plus I'm not sure where your from exactly but I've been having a hell of a time with mine (1997 B5 with stock 2000-2004 HID headlights) when left in the shop the lights work pretty much every time but let it sit out over night and have the same problem (its been getting to -15 to -20 C over night up here in Ontario, Canada) but when I've been driving for a bit I can flick the switch a bunch of time with little to no issues. Bear in mind the bulbs are warmed up by this point. You may need to change your DRL relay to the set up from a newer A4 with the factory HIDs. Not sure if I'm right but thats what I'm going to try for my very similar issue. As you guys have been doing I'll keep you guys posted on my results and keep checking in with this thread to see if you guys made any head way. BTW I work at a VW dealer so if you need part numbers, etc. let me know.

I hope someone blinds you with their 55w HIDs and you crash your car.
