I knew I was low on freon so I took it into an indipendent repair shop recommended to me by a friend and told them to recharge the system and check for leaks. They do that and tell me my fan clutch needs replaced and it would be $400 parts and labor in addition to the $117 for the freon recharge/check/dye. I told them I will wait on the fan clutch and just not run the AC while stopped until I can afford it. Just got home with the car to check it out and the fan runs fine! Runs while sitting still with ac on, turn ac off it stops, turn ac on and a few seconds later the fan comes on. Seems to work fine to me, I am not an a/c expert, am I missing something?

 

They dont mean the electric fan, I think. They mean the viscous fan clutch on the other fan, the one that actually cools the car.




It'll spin while the engine is running, but not actually cooling, if broke.

 

Thanks for setting me straight, the left fan is not engaging. I will replace it's clutch when I do my timing belt.

 

Sounds like a plan.. Though I wouldn't wait too long, getting hot outside
