Get all info on repairs done. Timing belt is a must know. If the person says they don't know do all maintenance as if they didn't. BE SURE TO PLEASE read the stickies they have a ton of great info. A site that will be useful to you if you are newer to audi is audidiy.com I love that site! As for buying parts there are a ton of great places online to get discount prices (most listed in the stickies)!
OH and BTW Welcome to AF!!!! Pics once you have!

Doing your spark plugs, coil packs, and oil change are pretty straight forward. You can do those things yourself with no problem. The timing belt, tensioner, and waterpump you can do yourself if you are mechanically inclined. I've seen people get that done at a shop for 600-900 depending on where you go. Check to see if your car qualifies for the coilpack recall from Audi. Coilpacks cost about 30-50 depending on the brand and quality. This is one of those things that you don't want to go cheap on because the cheaper one's are prone to failing. NGK spark plugs are a common choice because they are cheap and effective. They will run you 3-7 depending on the type. I only run synthetic oil and that runs me about 7 a quart. Just a little advice, make sure you spend the extra 2 or 3 bucks on using 91 or 93 octane. It's recommended for our cars and your motor will be much happier. Good luck with everything and feel free to PM me if you have any question.

I've just read the horror stories (or rather - I've read that there have been horror stories) about using non-synthetic oils in our cars due to sludge buildup on the oil screen.
And that makes me cautious about dumping in Lucas for the same reason or doing seafoam for the same reasons.
But I can't pretend to be a knowledgeable mechanic.

I have always used mobil one in my cars. I have another question. I went to see the car again and pretty much everything looks ok. but, there is a strange noise when i turn the ac on....nothin very loud but a noise that u can hear. that's normal?? is there anything else i should check???
