brake system set up!

There is no such thing as overkill when it comes to brakes. Only bad decision would be brake pads with high temp operating range made for racing. Stopping distance saves money and lives.

I thought that there was a lot more work involved in switching to S4 brakes. Don't you have to change the spindles, etc. to run the S4 calipers? Perhaps I'm mistaken... Aside from the TT carriers, the A8 setup is a simple bolt on.

well consider your doing a control arm replacement. already taking the spindles off. they go back on with proper s4 lower arms. Its more work than a simple bracket change yes but in the end the result is more worth it. Agreeing with cincytt no such thing as overkill brakes. Audi 8 pot brembos - needed to stop the rs6.

heres a full list - i have the parts
Front
- front A6/S4 HP2 hub carriers/spindles
- HP2 calipers and carriers
- Correct s4 lower control arms, one is different for the alumni spindles
- rotors and pads
Rear
- Rear B5 S4 calipers and carriers - uses same pads as a4 if not mistaken
- Rear B7 S4 rotors
- Adaptor from 034
- SS lines are needed for the rear - bought the whole 6 piece kit
Another thing I did forget to mention. There is a decent weight loss when switching to alumni carriers. I know of a thread specifying exact weight of all the components i will search for today.

Not so much. In the front, the spindle is the oddly shaped thing that holds your wheel bearing, hub, brake components, and links all the control arms together. This is a picture of one from a 30v Passat:
Carriers bolt to the spinder to hold the caliper around the rotor. In the pic above, the carrier bolts to the two holes visible just above the hub on the right side of the picture. The carrier itself is a separate part that looks like this:

i don't mean overkill as in bad...... i mean not too many people on here need the to put a8 kits on their cars much less run s4 stuff
most can get by with just a good set of pads
as for the a4 single or s4 dual, or most dual piston setups ive seen other than say an sti:
the a4 has a large piston and it covers as much surface area as alot of the dual piston setups ive seen
