Brake Light Warning?

Brake Light Warning?
Hi,
I have a 99 A4 w/ the cluster LCD, and sometimes (almost completely random, I can never guess when it will happen), it will give me the tail light error icon. I have checked all the rear lights I can think of (all 4 driver side tail lights, 3 passenger side tail lights, trunk lights, center rear light, and plate lights) and nothing is burned out.
On a related note, I have installed an aftermarket in-line xenon HID system for my low beams - but the error icon comes on even if my headlights are completely off. I'll try to scan for anything related in VCDS lite, but I can't think of many other things that would throw an error...
Thanks for any help!

I've had a situation where the bulb wasn't seating entirely into the aluminum holders in the assembly. you may have to bend the metal a bit to keep in secure. those bulbs have ears on each side that need to make solid contact. maybe the bottom contact point needs to be bent up (towards the bulb) somewhat.
