Brake fluid type for my audi
#2
Any DOT4 brake fluid will do fine. DOT3 is also compatible with DOT4 fluids, but has a lower boiling point.
I prefer the Valvoline 3&4 synthetic brake fluid. It is cheap and has a high boiling point. Avoid anything DOT5 as it will not be compatible with the fluid you currently have.
A final note is to never use brake fluid from and open container. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning that it readily absorbs water. The boiling point of the fluid is drastically diminished once it has absorbed water. There is also the side effect of internal corrosion within the brake system because of dirty fluid. An open container will have absorbed water from the atmosphere and should not be used.
Brake fluid should be clear or slightly yellow in color. Fluid that is dark and opaque has absorbed water and contains other contaminants and should be flushed from the system.
