Boost Guage setup help
#11
Thats on the list...when I installed the **** I didn't have time to modify the boot to run the wire down the inside.
I'm waiting for my leather samples to arrive for a new shift boot, so I may just wait until I get the new boot to modify it.

Here's what I did:
-And got the tubing kit and red LED. Total was $52.50 shipped.
-Removed the driver vent and took out the vertical fins.
-Made a template out of a cereal box based on the size of the boost gauge (so it was a 52mm circle). This template was glued onto the back-side of the vent.
-Used a Dremel with the side-cutting drill bit cut out the shape of the template.
-Cleaned up rough edges with a #1/#11 hobby knife.
-Mounted and glued in the boost gauge with epoxy.
-Masked off the glass of the boost gauge and cleaned all exposed surfaces of the vent and gauge with rubbing alcohol, then sprayed them off with an air compressor.
-Painted everything with a low-gloss black (high temp engine paint, because I had it laying around). 3 coats did the trick.
Took off the masking tape and installed the gauge hardware and it was done! I wired the positive wire to the ignition line contained behind the knee bolster. A hole was drilled in the duct for the wires and tubing, and then I ran the hose through the ECU box and into the engine compartment.

i wish that podi made the dual pod for the b5. i'd be allllll over it. ive got the single and i love it. if your interior is black itll be perfect. i've got the tan int. so it was a little more tricky for me but i love it.

Ya when i saw it i made up my mind right there because for the other one that mount's in the ac vent is kind of a hazard cuz you gotta look over to see it and you lose the road perception i would think.

Yeah... took them today after work. I only saw one other B5 or B6 with their gauge in the driver vent. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough? To me it is the most unobtrusive location that doesn't require A LOT of work.
And yes I do realize it's not perfectly straight

Air still comes out of there... it's just not directional Bit different in SoCal, I can still count the number of times I have hit the AC button on one hand since I bought the car.
