The M3 has a 4 door version. It's even cheaper.

I think its cool that Audi and BMW continue to challenge each other, and it has resulted in some great cars for the consumer.
Its also cool that they both have their own distinct character, with BMW focusing on weight distribution and rear wheel drive, and Audi focusing on interior design and AWD.
The M3 is brillant but when its rains the RWD becomes somewhat sketchy.

Honestly, the Subaru Legacy GT often wins in tests against the A4 Quattro, too. Problem with them is that they're super ugly and that Subaru interiors are junk. The fit and finish is terrible.
The weight distribution in our cars is terrible. The weight is too high overall, too. They've fortunately been working on that in the newer models. The B8 S4, of course, is much better than the B7.

All of those test don't count. The only test that really counts for me is the one the I do myself. I have a BMW 525, and I have an A4. I am alway driving the BMW because the A4 is always at the shop. There is always somethig bad on the A4. When my A4 is good, I enjoy driving it, but unfortune is not very often.
