Does it matter he's looking every where for advice and like me when I was new I looked every where and I 'm still on at least 6 forums which all have something different to offer.

I have a 00 1.8T that just rolled over 100k and it's as good as new. Just picked up a 97 1.8T yesterday with 172k, and asside from the tranny being jacked, the engine runs just as good as the 00 from what I can tell. Audi engines are rock solid, it's just the things that are attatched to it that don't last as long. You could expect to get 300k out of one if taken care of right.

The haldex system is (from what i've heard) quite different from the Torsen AWD system. obviously, two different systems, but I know that the haldex system which is the system in the TT's, they throw all of, or a majority of, the power to the front wheels when the car loses traction. I'm not sure EXACTLY what the Torsen does when it loses traction, but I know that its more 50/50 based. As far as what your looking for, like I stated earlier, search around. I see that your doing just that, and that's great. There's nothing like learning more and more =) I picked up my 99 with just <100k for a little over 7k. I think I paid 7.200. It was a bit on the expensive side, but the car was in immacualte condition, and was already chipped with a full borla exhaust system. I couldn't pass that up. These cars are crazy to mod. There is so much you can do with them it's crazy. The 2.8, I personally have never driven or done ANY research on, so I'm gonna keep my .02 to myself on that one. Good luck with whatever you do though. Just be sure to read up on it, and keep yourself informed. That's the best thing you can do.

If you like the 540 why don't you jump into a 2.7 or 4.2? I absolutely love A6's and I'm not 19 yet either, so 6's aren't only for geezers. My 2.7 was extremely reliable through 128k punished miles and still rolling. Believe me, a 2.8 is much slower than a 2900lb 325xi. BMW underrates their cars when it comes to marketing stats. My friend has a 87 3 series and can spank me any day on the road. Tiny quick freaking cars. So drive a 2.8 and you'll see what I mean by SLUGGISH. 1.8Ts with a chip provide a comfortable ride altho not adrenaline pumping driving. They only way you'll take turns in an A4 as you would in a Bimmer is stripping it. I got mine from 3,540lb to a sweet 3,120 the other day in under an hour. Then when on twisty roads it felt awesome. BTW torsen Quattro IS 50/50. A ltd. rear diff can help with the bias but I know BMW is more rear drive than front. I say you check out a 00-01 A6 2.7 6-speed with under 80k miles for under $10,000 if you can and you'll love em if your into the 5-series.

Define "random". I know there are plenty because I've been in the market for a 6MT A6 unfortunately I exclusively want a facelift model (02-04) otherwise I would've gotten an 00-01 with 68k miles for $9.500 easy

Random = anywhere that isn't Central Massachusetts or Boston, The Northeast, California, or Chicago
