Default Blinking CEL

2001 A4 1.8TQM, 175,000 miles,around 50,000 miles on the new motor.

Coming down an on ramp I see a car coming so I give it a little in order to make it onto the highway without cutting the guy off. I feel the car lose some power but it was still driving. I look down to see the dreaded blinking CEL. I could feel a littlevibration coming from the enginebay. I pull over immediately and turn the car off and look under the hood to see if I can tell what is going on, nothing. Timing belt was still on there, no fluids, no smoke, nothing.I got the car towed to the shop and they are running diagnostic on it as we speak. What do you guys think it is?oil pump? timing belt tensioner?

I will update this thread once I hear from the shop.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm correct a blinking CEL is telling you that a Misfire is occurring.

and edit you have a 1.8 so could be the coil packs..

i would of babied it to autozone

mis is normally what it is, now you are paying to find that out, and you will probably have them put on the coil.....

so at least 60(diagnosis) + 60(+/-)(replacing coil) + 32.50(what they are here)(coil) =(150)(+/-) a huge amount compared to

autozone diagnosis free + you changing coil free + coil 32.50 = 32.50

lesson learned

yeah true, $32.50 vs. $150but last time the CEL started blinking my brother continued to drive and it turned out that the oil pump went and the engine had seized. I guess we will see what they find and take it from there. I would be happy if it just a coil pack vs. something else major.

90 percent of the time if it is just a flashing cel on audi's at least it is a coil..... if it is something oil related, you will get a low pressure light or low oil light......

it is your car and not mine, so if you wanna park it and not risk anything that is cool, but i have had way too many vehicles that have blow coils or distributors and had the same type of issue..... so i feel safe doing something like that

if nothing else, park it, get a ride to a dealer, but a coil and start swapping it till you fix the miss.... if you still don't, then call a tow truck

also autozone rents their code clearer.... so you can see what the issue is

or buy one on ebay and keep it in the car

thanks turbo kraut. Yeah I have AAA so they towed it for free. Hopefully it is just a coil.
