bigger filter 1.8t
yo - flame if you want but i have a question
this is my 2nd oil change with my 1.8t. im at approx 105k miles right now.
last oil change i used mobil 1 full syn 0w30
1) i read that 0w40 or 5w40 would be better for a higher mileage car (is this true?)
2) I also came across using the ford 302 oil filter cause its bigger... how much more oil shuold i put in to compensate for this? standard calls for 4.5 so would 5 be too much?
THANKS!

I run the 0w40, it is more for cold weather, which means its less thick, so I don't think its better but I wouldn't put your faith in my reasoning.
As far as using the larger oil filter, just use the mobil 1 filter, they are gigantic and Im sure are more than enough. If you still want to use the ford filter then put like 4.7quarts and keep checking the dipstick and add as needed.

0w30 or 0w40 should be fine, if they are the same price get the w40 because it is officially approved by audi and the 0w30 is not.
if you use a larger oil filter, you put in whatever amount of oil gets the level on the stick to full.

No, even tho the temp rating IS for colder weather, 40 weight oil is thicker than 30... Which IS better for higher mileage cars because its a bit thicker/heavier and keeps knocks and ticks away better... I also use a heavier oil when selling a car so that the engine sounds smoother...
The number before the "w" is the temp rating, the number after the "w" is the weight.
Oh and as for the filter, I always use the larger Mann filter which is just as big as the 302 or large mobil1... and is made for synthetic oil.
