bent the rear axle !!
Well I went and whacked the rear p/s wheel off a kerb sideways which bent the rear arm and the wheel is now sitting 25+ mm back towards the rear of the arch. Totally gutted that I done this after faultless driving for over 25 yrs.
Now the car's on the lift, axle removed ready for a replacement. Everywhere is closed over christmas so the agony is prolonged. Then the wife came home with a cracked windscreen in her car. Here's hoping 2012 will be kinder

it's fwd (thank goodness) got a second hand axle beam from breakers yard, getting it sorted tomorrow. If I had have had the RS6's on, the rim would have buckled and probably caused less damage. Them OEM audi rims are made of strong stuff.

OP: reason why I asked if it is FWD is because I did something pretty similar to my FWD. I also stuffed the passenger front corner into the curb (as well as shifting the rear axle beam).
Anyways, I too had to get a junkyard rear axle beam. More than likely it would be a good idea to replace the guide bushings for the axle beam before installing it. The used axle beam I got had guide bushings in pretty bad shape.
I made a DIY for replacing the guide bushings:

still not an axel is it? I didn't know there wasn't rear control arms on fwd tho. Just looked at BVently to see tho. I thought it would just be similar to quattro just without the axels. interesting. But with that amoun of damage would it only be the axel beam bent or more? for the op's sake.

It's not an axle in the traditional sense, more like a torsion beam axle (it twists with suspension movement).
If worse damage were done than just a bent axle beam, the chassis would be damaged. Fortunately the axle beam mounting brackets have oval-shaped holes, so the axle beam can be repositioned to the ideal position. These oval-shaped holes are what allow the axle beam to be aligned.
