Got 4 quotes today. All were over $1000 to do the Cam chain tensioner and between $850 and $1000 to do the timing belt.

Man I'm telling you, that's crazy. Even at $450 for the part (which it can be had for less - I have a car coming soon for this job, whose owner paid $295 shipped for CCT and valve cover gasket, on an 01 1.8T), you're still being told it's over $550 labor. For anyone who has done one, it's a 3.5 hour job tops. You're really getting raked over the coals.

Those are aftermarket parts for $295? Couldn't find anyone who would use aftermarket. They said they were not as good.
