Basic questions/thoughts: Engine code, washer tank, timing belt
Recently got my first Audi, 2001 A4 1.8t Avant Quattro, with 161,xxx miles. I am trying to learn as much as I can. It came to me with 8 codes, but all have been fixed now. Replaced coil packs, plugs, oil filter, both air filters, cleaned the MAF, replaced the downstream 02 sensor (It was chewed clean through). I am still working on fixing the washer tank. It had a crack in it that I epoxied, but when I put it back in, the grommet at the base of the tank is now leaking. It is not the motor. I can't find a diagram of the washer tank set-up to save my life. It is the all-in-one style, not the two piece. Any ideas on how to fix this?
From all my reading, I should have an AWM motor, but the engine code is AUG. Does this mean the engine has been changed at some point? I am looking to get a Bentley manual, but since the engine code is AUG, will that change the manual I get?
My biggest concern is the timing belt. I know I should get it changed, but I am two hours from a dealer and they quoted me $1600. I haven't found anyone more local that will do it. Well, that isn't true. They will do everything except the cam tensioner as they say that requires special tools that they don't have. I don't really want to do it myself, as I don't have a garage and all my work is done in the driveway.
Also, is Ross-Tech the only place to get a good VAG-COM?

I found out from the sticker in the spare tire wheel well that the original engine was an ATW and the engine that is in there now is an AUG, which from what I have read came out of a 2000 Passat.
Went to look at a 2000 A4 and based on the way that one sounds, my 2001 A4 is dieseling. I thought it was, but I needed a comparison.

I need clarification: I am definitely getting the timing belt done and all that goes with it, but should I have the cam tensioners, aka chain tensioner, replaced or not? Am I correct that in order to check/work on the cam tensioner, even to just check the alignment, the valve cover has to be removed? Does the front end of the car have to come off as well, like it does for a timing belt change out? I thought I understood that if a person is going to do the timing belt, then they should go ahead and replace the cam tensioner. Did I understand this correctly?
I apologize in my earlier post that I said "cams done" when I meant the cam tensioner.
