Hi guys,

I've got a B5 Audi A4 TDi which is having trouble starting in the mornings. If I leave it for a day or so, it just cranks and won't start. It needs connecting to another car using jump leads before it will start up.

I've checked the battery and it measures 11.92v across the terminals. There's no real drain on it (0.15A), so I don't think that's the issue.

When you crank it, the battery voltage drops to 9v straight away, and then kept dropping to about 7v before we stopped cranking it.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? This is a real pain in the mornings now.

This is the second battery it's happened to, any ideas why this would be happening?

Sounds like a bad alternator to me

 

^ I second that motion. Replace alternator, charge battery, and then...

 

11 volts is too low. When you have the car running see what your voltage reading is then which will determine how the alternator is doing.

 

my alternator pushes around 14volts when running.

btw, any videos of your tdi? i'd like to see one!
